I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York and provide individual, couple, family, and group therapy to all ages. As a therapist, I engage adults in a thoughtful combination of cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic strategies to address their specific needs, as well as provide couple and family therapy to aid in relationship difficulties and communication problems.
I obtained a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a Marriage and Family Specialization from The University of Texas at Tyler and hold both a license in professional counseling from Texas and a license in mental health counseling in New York. As a counselor I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient programs at a psychiatric hospital in Texas. In Brooklyn I worked at a non-profit, government-regulated agency. I have experience counseling children, adolescents, and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, anger, addictions, phobias, stress, major life changes, and family/relationship concerns. I have led daily group therapy to teach new, healthy ways of dealing with life stressors and facilitated cancer support groups, helping men and women as they cope with life-altering diseases.
Along with my experience as a psychotherapist, I taught for five years in both the public and private school settings, where I was honored by receiving the Area Excellence Award and Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. Additionally, I have served as the Director of the Counseling & Wellness Center at Guttman Community College for eight years and am currently the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at Guttman. My background in schools provides me with the understanding of the demands placed on students of today. I have worked alongside parents and schools, helping children, adolescents, and young adults reach their full potential.
My desire is see you not merely exist, but live a life free of fear, guilt, and shame which so often hold us back and are at the root of unhealthy patterns in our personal lives and relationships. I believe the therapeutic relationship is essential to effective work. My goal is to create a non-judgmental space, work collaboratively, and focus on the areas you want to see change. Together we will explore the interactions between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and modify any unhealthy patterns and beliefs that may be at the core of your problems. I aim to equip you with effective strategies to use long after our work together ends.
